Target Audience
Rollercoaster Theatre’s target audience includes individuals passionate about inclusive arts and social change, such as theatre and film enthusiasts, disability advocates, educators, and community groups.
Rollercoaster regularly performs at the Melbourne Fringe Festival and enters film festivals like Tropfest.
The company appeals to those seeking innovative, thought-provoking performances that challenge stereotypes and support mixed-ability artists. Its unique programs, ranging from adult acting workshops to primary school initiatives attract families and organisations dedicated to fostering equal opportunities for all abilities.
Creative Considerations
Rollercoaster Theatre’s ensemble of trained actors was formed to address the lack of employment opportunities for people with mixed abilities within the arts.
The company aims to showcase its ensemble as professional theatre talent, and the branding reflects this ambition by raising the profile of performers with mixed abilities.
Inspired by bold, minimal text-based logos often used for art museums and theatre companies, the logo positions Rollercoaster as part of the professional artistic mainstream. The grounded shapes convey confidence, reflecting the company’s commitment to self-worth, purpose, and autonomy. The contrast of the electric blues and vibrant orange creates a visual impact that highlights the vibrancy and unique creativity of the ensemble.
TEA PARTY SHOW COLLATERAL
Tea Party is a free, interactive theatre experience created for the Melbourne Fringe Festival, performed in the heart of QV Mall.
This disability-led performance offers a bold, hilarious commentary on society’s unwritten rules. The cast invites the audience to step onstage to flip traditional tea party etiquette on it's head. With an aesthetic that blends the audacious whimsy of Alice in Wonderland with gritty graffiti, the show reimagines and reclaims societal norms in a playful, subversive way where anything can happen.
The branding and marketing materials—social media content, posters, and flyers—were designed to reflect the show’s playful, rebellious spirit. The use of handwritten gritty lettering and duotone image treatment evokes the anti-establishment grunge aesthetic, while the bold colours keep the graphics feeling exciting and relevant. The flyer, designed, printed, and die-cut in-house, unfolds into a maximalist tea party invitation that juxtaposes traditional ornate imagery with a bold break from convention.
